The S&W Model 686 is an L Frame revolver that was designed by legendary wheel gun makers, Smith & Wesson. Although the L Frame isn't as popular compared to the other frame sizes due to the late entry of the L Frame, as the L Frame was introduced in the 1980s when the semi-automatic "Wonder Nines" started becoming more popular with law enforcement, military, and other civilian shooters. Nevertheless, the Model 686 did see service notably with the French GIGN and the United States Navy SEALs during amphibious operations, the United States Border Patrol's legacy U.S. Customs Services, and some marine police departments due to the Model 686 being made of Stainless Steel.
